Sunday into Monday and
the days are flying by. We had a day around the farm yesterday,
spending our time lazing around the garden and walking through the
orangery. It is so beautiful here with the birds singing and the
breeze blowing in the palm trees. Fair takes your breath away.
A local resident slowly
walks past the front door and Krysia has a chat.
Today's adventure was
in Taroudant, We left at 11am and got back at 5 pm!
On the way in, we
stopped on the roadside to experience first hand, the ubiquitous
'goats up trees'!
I'm sure the shepherd
waits by the roadside for us tourists to pass
but hey, when a
tourist, be a tourist!
We have a baby goat thrust into our hands and photo's are encouraged.
Then, a twig of Argan
was put into my hand and a large goat climbed up my body to get at
the leaves!
He then mounted Krysia,
much to her surprise!
A good laugh being had
by all. We moved on, leaving him a tip but declining the offer of
exchanging Euros, selling booze, giving clothes or anything else he
could think of. One must be firm but pleasant at all times.
We took a horse and
cart from the car park into the centre of town and found the shoe
maker we visited with Jaimie two years ago. He was in his old
workshop, which was lucky as his shop has moved to another spot. Mum
wants to buy Krysia a birthday present and a pair of handmade boots
is what she wants. Our friend remembers us and is delighted to make a
pair for Krysia. She chooses the carpet decoration and we all go to
his shop which is, as it turns out, right next to the square we were
intending to go to for our lunch. We sit in his small shop while he
measures Krysia for her boots and while waiting, Mum and I both find
a pair of shoes we want. Lovely hand made babouches for a very decent
price.
As we are not in a
hurry, Krysia's boots will be ready next Sunday. Last year, he made
Jaimie's overnight as we were leaving the next day but as we are here
for another week, we are not in that sort of rush. They will be a
special birthday present.
We ate in the main
square just around the corner, having chicken brochettes and chips! A
fine meal was had in the shade as the hot sun shone was too much to
sit in. The meal took longer than we thought as a chatty Dutchman,
who said he liked to draw portraits, offered to sketch one of Krysia.
She sat patiently while he explained the techniques of portraiture as
he went along. I was able to see the developing image and sadly saw
he was no Van Gogh. I thought of putting the picture in the blog but quite frankly, we don't think it is appropriate.
We shopped for supplies
in the local souk, where we found familiar faces and fun was to be
had by all. Going back to the same shop keepers is fun. They are
delighted to see us return and correct prices with friendly
conversation makes being here a joy.
A long day out is
followed by an evening in front of the fire and a vege curry cooked
by Krysia.
