1st March
Yesterday was a
recovery day for Mum as she was understandably worn out. What a place
to recuperate, hot sun shone all day with plenty of shade for
snoozing and several naps were taken as the day went calmly by. Her
small but delightful house is ideal for our holiday together as we
have the van to rest in while she, her own pad to base herself and
sleep in if need be.
While Krysia prepared
an afternoon snack, Mum and I went for a stroll in the Orangery, We
came across a turtle just passing by, as well as plenty of oranges.
In the evening we had a
tajine prepared for us by the resident cook, NoHa which was
absolutely delicious. Chicken so tender, mmm and real fire of logs to
keep us warm as the evening chill set in. Altogether, a great first
day with Mum getting in the mood for an adventure.
Today saw another fine
and sunny day. So after a hearty breakfast, Mum's is included with her
deal, we set off of the van to Taroudant. We park easily and set off
into the crazy world of downtown Morocco.
Wandering the streets with
vehicles and people coming from all directions is a challenge. One
in front and one behind Mum helps to keep on a straight path into the
middle of this bustling city. We chat and stop at all sorts of
places, a huge smile on Mum's face as we weave our way into the old
souks of the town. We buy dates, figs, almonds, apricots and oranges,
Biscuits and vegetables. We could have used a camel to carry for us!
That of course was Krysia and I and we were fine. We stopped for some
lunch in a cafe with a terrace, giving us a break from all the chaos
on the streets. Having been here before, we managed to find our way
back to the van without too much trouble even though the pace became
slower and slower in the heat of the day. Apart from one nauseating
tout, we met many charming and friendly people who were all polite
and helpful, giving Mum happy memories of her first day out in
Morocco.
Back at the farm, she
slept while we lazed in the sun, absolutely exhausted. It's been a
tiring day! Looking after Mum in the crazy world of Taroudant has
been …. lovely.
Another evening in
Mum's pad to end our day, in front of the log fire, with a meal
cooked by Krysia. Lovely.
Leila Saida ( Sleep
well in arabic )
lots of love
Ted, Krysia and Mum
