After a freezing cold night in Salamanca, we woke to frosty morning. So cold that the water had frozen in the van. Still, it's a beautiful sunny day and we'd 400 miles or so to travel. Krysia drove most of the way along the Autivia Ruta de la Plata, a long flat (ish) plain ( as in plains of Spain ) road that takes you down to Sevilla and on to Algeciras. Krysia drove really well, including the hectic road through Sevilla and on to the Ticket office near the port.
Today has been another brilliant sunny day. Perfect for crossing the Straits of Gibralta. We were at the ferry port at 8am, first in the queue. I waited impatiently for the boat to get a move on, as the picture below shows!
So needless to say, the captain felt obliged to allow us on first. Which was very decent of him!
After a calm crossing and a swift and effortless border control passage ( we were first in that queue too ), we drove straight to Tanger for Dirhams, mobile top-up and internet modem for the computer. After a lovely lunch in town, we headed out to Cap Spartel and The ' Grottes de Hercule'. Here, on the Atlantic coast, we settle in a campsite for a well overdue rest. It's been a long voyage but we have arrived and it feels brilliant!
We sat in the sunshine amongst many Moroccans, enjoying the atmosphere of this quaint attraction. Fishermen and town dwellers mix happily, with camel rides and cafes for the Tanger locals.
As the sun sets, the air is chilly but the warmth of Morocco is evident. It is lovely to be back
Sleep well, love The Beynons
