South we go, past a
surf spot outside Safi that we stayed at in the 70's. We stop for a
look and find some brits riding 3 ft lovelyness, just as we remember.
The phosphate factory seems to have doubled in size since we were
last here and possibly grown to include another chemical plant. The
brits tell us that there are two large pipes spewing out effluent
just around the corner! They don't seem to mind but I decide that I
don't need to go surfing that badly and we leave them to their toxic
delight. It did look nice mind you, I was tempted but …..
somewhere a bit cleaner was on my mind.
On we drive along the
lovely coast road heading for Essaouira, passing through towns with
no name and smiling faces, happy to share their delight in seeing
this old bus cruising through their countryside.
We turn off at Moulay
Bouzerktoun, not really knowing what we'd find. What a surprise,
windsurfers paradise!
Explained by the fact
that it's very windy! And there are several windsurfers whizzing
about on the waves.
Several camper vans are
here too, set up to stay, so we join them. Just like the old days,
wild camping next to the sea with no hassles. Well, the kids are a
bit of a nuisance but they only want to sell you a hat or give them a
dirham, they're quite sweet really.
We walk along the empty beach, no other footsteps
visible.
Through the village, past the mosque, watching swallows as the sun sets. The local policeman just waves and smiles.
Too good to be true? We'll see but for tonight it's perfect.
Oh yes, congratulations
to Ami and Tim, they got engaged last night. They must have decided
that the trial run was successful and the real deal was now due to be
put into action. They're going to get married! Lots of love to you
both from us and all of Morocco!
Sleep well everyone
love
Ted and Krysia xxx
